Mayse Reserve is located about 12 miles north of Paris, Texas on the
Red River basin in Lamar county. The lake provides excellent opportunities
for Texas bass fishing and hunting. Sport fish species in the lake include
largemouth bass, white crappie, sunfish, striped bass, channel catfish
and flathead catfish, and other common fish species. These lands are
managed for upland game and white tail deer and are open to the public
as a public hunting area. The game species present include deer, fox
squirrel, gray squirrel, bobwhite quail, morning dove, cottontail rabbit,
raccoon and fox. The lake also provides resting and feeding habitat
for migratory waterfowl. A few miles north of the project area are the
farmed Red River bottoms. Where waterfowl congregate in great numbers.
The campground boasts over 80 ideal campsites.
